General Offshoring Questions

What is offshoring, and how does it differ from outsourcing?

Offshoring is relocating certain business operations or functions to be performed by staff in another country to benefit from lower costs or greater talent availability. Typically the responsibility for managing the day to day operations of the offshore team members remains with the company. Outsourcing refers to contracting third-party providers for services, whether local or international. Typically the Outsourcing provider will manage the day to day operations of the offshore team, rather than the company. Offshoring is sometimes considered a subset of outsourcing.

Why should I consider offshoring for my business?

Offshoring gives your business access to a larger talent pool, significant cost savings (up to 70%), and the ability to focus on core business functions while we handle the back office.

What types of roles are suitable for offshoring?

Virtually any role that does not need to be performed in a specific physical location in your home country can be offshored. Common offshored roles include customer service, IT support, digital marketing, finance, data analytics, accounting, admin, and software development, although the range is huge.

How quickly can we set up an office in the Philippines?

With a serviced office, operations can commence within a week, subject to availability. Understanding specific IT and telecommunication requirements is crucial and is typically addressed during the initial assessment or recruitment process.

Scaling on Demand

Can I scale my offshore team up during peak seasons like EOFY or the holidays?

Yes! At Satellite Office, we make it easy to scale your offshore team up or down as your business needs evolve. Whether you’re preparing for the end of financial year, holiday sales surges, or launching a new campaign, our recruitment and support teams can help you quickly onboard additional staff without compromising quality or control.

How much notice do I need to scale my offshore team?

We typically recommend giving us 3–6 weeks to ensure a seamless recruitment and onboarding experience, but we’re often able to move faster if needed, depending on the role, talent availability, and your desired start date.

What roles are best for seasonal or project-based offshore hiring?

Roles in customer service, sales support, digital marketing, data entry, accounting, and tech support are ideal for peak season scaling. Our team can advise you on what is feasible based on your goals and timeline.

Financial and Legal Considerations

What cost savings can I expect from offshoring?

You can save up to 70% in employee costs depending on the roles and structure.

Are there any hidden fees in your offshoring services?

No. Our transparent pricing model clearly shows you exactly what you’re paying for, with no hidden costs.

Satellite Office pricing ensures clarity and predictability. Our quoted savings (65-70% on average) include both direct employee costs and our monthly solution fee, giving you a complete and accurate picture of your savings.

How are employment laws and benefits handled for offshore employees?

Satellite Office ensures full compliance with Philippine labour laws and manages benefits, payroll, and legal requirements.

About Risks in Offshoring

How do you ensure employees have the right skills and attitude?

Our specialised recruitment team employs a blend of established processes and advanced tools, including video interviews and skills-based testing. Clients are involved in the interview and selection process, ensuring hires align with both job requirements and company culture.

Can we cancel the service if no suitable candidate is found?

To date, clients have successfully found suitable employees in the Philippines. In the rare event this doesn’t occur, clients are only invoiced once a candidate has signed an employment contract and commenced employment.

How does Satellite Office protect intellectual property?

We implement comprehensive measures to safeguard your intellectual property:

  • Employment contracts stipulate that all work created by staff is your exclusive property.
  • Robust physical and system-based security measures, including biometric access and employee ID protocols.
  • Mandatory Non-Disclosure and Confidentiality Agreements for all staff.
How is work securely delivered by staff?

Staff follow your directives for daily tasks. We assist in establishing a secure work environment, comparable or superior to your local office. Clients can also set up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for added security.

What happens in the event of a system failure?

Satellite Office provides full system backups and 24/7 IT support from our central Network Operations Center (NOC), ensuring business continuity through emergency power, redundant internet connections, and other essential amenities.

About Benefits and Termination

What is the total cost for staff?

The total cost comprises:

  • Direct Staff Costs: Gross salary, 13th-month pay, private medical insurance, life insurance, and statutory costs.
  • Monthly Solution Fee: Covers the managed solution, including office space, IT support, HR, payroll, and other services.

Clients can achieve significant savings, ranging from $30,000 to $90,000 per person annually, depending on the role.

Can we provide medical benefits to employees?

Yes. Beyond the mandatory PhilHealth contribution, we offer additional healthcare insurance for employees and, upon approval, their dependents. The cost of medical benefits and insurance for staff are included in our costing.

What if an employee's performance is unsatisfactory after several months?

Employees undergo a 6-month probationary period, with evaluations at the 3rd and 5th months. Termination during this period is permissible for performance issues or just cause, following due process. Post-probation, termination requires a 1-month notice and severance pay equivalent to one month’s salary per year of service, unless justified otherwise.

About Philippine Labour Law

What are the normal hours of work of an employee?

The normal work hours of an employee shall not exceed 8 hours a day and shall have a maximum of 40 hours a week. If made to work in excess of 40 hours, staff are entitled to Overtime Pay, which is at least a 25% premium charged on the hourly rate for the overtime worked, based on an ordinary day.

Can the normal hours be less than 8?

Yes. The law sets a maximum number of hours but does not prohibit work done less than eight hours. Thus, part-time work is allowed and pay corresponding to the actual hours worked will be paid.

Is work done between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 am paid higher than normal?

Yes. Under the Labour Code, every employee shall be paid a night shift differential of not less than 10% of their regular wage for each hour of work performed between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am the following day.

What is 13th month pay?

13th month pay is the 1/12 of the basic salary earned by the employee during the year. It is compulsory and to be given not later than December 24 of the year.
